How Internet of Things Influences Classroom Learning?

Today’s schools are smarter and livelier than the traditional chalk and blackboard environments. Now, if you walk into a kindergarten classroom in any technologically-advanced school, you will find children using smartphones, tablets and computers. As the Internet of Things (IoT) movement is progressing, schools are gearing up to integrate the latest technologies and applications into lesson plans and classroom activities.

IoT is basically a network of devices linked via the Internet. It eliminates the requirements of manual inputs of data by merging the physical and virtual worlds. Devices like a laptop, mobile phone, or tablet are used in this technology.

The following are some of the positive impacts of IoT on classroom learning.

  • Interactive learning
Interactive learning is one of the key contributions of IoT to classroom learning. These days, learning is not only limited to textbooks, students are exploring the online world too. Teachers keep students engaged in the classroom by providing additional learning materials, assessments and videos etc.
  • Reduced schoolbags weight
Thanks to IoT, students nowadays don’t need to carry every single book to the classroom as eBooks being used in the classroom carry hundreds of books in it. It also reduces the chance of misplacing their important books.
  • Educational Apps
Teaching and learning have been transformed by the educational mobile apps leveraging IoT. BYJU’S, Photomath, TED, Quizlet, BrainPOP etc. are some of the learning apps that students use to increase their understanding of different things.
  • Education to special children
Special kids, Autistic kids and those with other disorders respond to educational videos and tablets very well. Children with dyslexia, ADHD or other learning impairment are greatly aided by all technology at their disposal. iPrompts, MyTalkTools, AutisMate and E-Mintza are some of the leading apps meant to assist the special children.
  • Education anywhere anytime
IoT enables learners to educate themselves where it is needed and when it is needed. It also helps the teachers to monitor the progress of the students in the classroom individually.
  • Makes teachers’ tasks easier
This technology helps the teachers check students’ answer sheets and make grades faster with the help of different devices. Thus, makes the process easier, less biased and more efficient. Through IoT, teachers can better identify the individual needs of each student and guide them better.

Conclusion: It’s undeniable that IoT technology has a profound impact on classroom learning, with positive transformations for the next generation students. Not only learning has become faster, but also educational institutions are utilizing resources in a better way. In the near future, most of the schools may use IoT to produce highly tech-literate students.
